The ‘Ruller 91+9’ exhibition will pay tribute to the architect Ivan Ruller
19 November - 6 December | Brno Architecture Gallery | opening: 19 November at 6 pm

November marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the
eminent Brno architect Ivan Ruller (1926–2018). To mark this anniversary, the
Brno City Museum, in collaboration with the Brno Architecture Gallery and with
the support of the Czech Architecture Foundation, has organised the exhibition
‘Ruller 91+9’, dedicated to his life, work and extraordinary legacy.
Ivan Ruller is inextricably linked with Brno and the Faculty
of Architecture at Brno University of Technology, where he studied architecture
and later served as a lecturer and dean. He played a significant role in the
transformation of the faculty after 1989 and, during his career, created more
than 600 projects of various kinds. His best-known projects include, for
example, the Ingstav building on Vídeňská Street, the Rondo Hall and the
funeral parlour in Brno-Židenice.
The exhibition will focus not only on Ruller’s architectural
work but also on his close relationship with the visual arts. Collaboration
with artists was an important part of his work and was reflected in many of his
designs. It is precisely this overlap between architecture and other artistic
disciplines that is one of the main themes of the forthcoming exhibition.
The exhibition will be officially opened on 19 November at 6.00 pm at the Brno Architecture Gallery, 18 Starobrněnská Street. The evening will also feature the launch of the publication Shapes and the City: Ivan Ruller’s Buildings in Brno.
