CHYBIK + KRISTOF Architects won the 2026 Architects’ Grand Prix for the Horácká Multifunctional Arena
Lecturers and graduates of FA BUT, architects Ondřej Chybík and Michal Krištof,
have triumphed in this year’s Grand Prix of Architects – National Architecture
Award 2026. They won the top prize for their design of the Horácká
Multifunctional Arena in Jihlava, which impressed the jury with its urban
planning solution and the way it integrates into the urban environment.

The new arena was built on the site of the former ice rink,
in the immediate vicinity of Jihlava’s historic centre. As well as providing
facilities for the HC Dukla Jihlava ice hockey club, it also serves as a
cultural and social centre. In addition to the hall itself, the complex
includes other publicly accessible facilities, such as accommodation, a
restaurant, a gym and a running track on the roof.
The jury particularly commended the architects’ ability to
create a building that is not an isolated structure, but a natural part of the
city. The design connects the new buildings with the surrounding development
and public spaces, whilst also tying in with the regeneration of the
neighbouring Smetanovy sady park.
In this year’s Architects’ Grand Prix, the expert jury
selected from dozens of completed projects across the Czech Republic. The
Horácká Multifunctional Arena received the highest honour across all
competition categories.
We congratulate Ondřej Chybík and Michal Krištof on this significant professional achievement!
